What is the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong at Golden Rishi?

While both practice traditional Chinese energy movement, Qigong focuses primarily on gentle breathing techniques, meditative flow, and internal energy cultivation for stress relief and health restoration. Tai Chi combines these internal energy principles with structured martial movement sequences (such as Chen-style Chen Tai Chi), helping improve core strength, balance, and mental focus.

Do I need any prior experience to join classes at Golden Rishi Academy?

No prior experience is needed. All classes—including Tai Chi, Qigong, and Taekwondo—are designed to accommodate beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Instructors guide each student step-by-step according to their individual physical capacity.

Can practicing Tai Chi and Qigong help with joint pain or stress management?

Yes. Regular practice of Qigong and Tai Chi is widely recognized for promoting joint flexibility, improving balance, enhancing blood circulation, and activating the parasympathetic nervous system to effectively reduce stress and anxiety.

What should I wear and bring to my first class?

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting athletic clothing that allows for a full range of motion, along with flat-soled indoor shoes or socks. Please bring a water bottle and arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled class.

Where is Golden Rishi Academy located in San Diego, and how can I sign up?
